"Undiagnosed Diabetes - The hidden danger"

The individuals who are unaware of their disease status are left untreated and are thus more prone to microvascular as well as macrovascular complications. Hence, it is necessary to detect the large pool of undiagnosed diabetic subjects in India and offer early therapy to these individuals.

Out of the 100 crore people in India, 70 crore are above the age of 20.
Out of the 21 crore urban population, 2.52 crore have diabetes but 8.4 million are undiagnosed.
About 12 to 15 percent of the urban population above the age of 20 has diabetes but it remains undiagnosed.
Out of a population of 49 crore in rural India, 9.8 million have diabetes but 4.9 million are undiagnosed. That is, about 2 to 6 percent of the rural population is diabetic.
But 30 percent of the diabetics in urban India and 60 percent of those suffering from diabetes in rural India are undiagnosed.
On the whole, out of a total of 3.5 crore diabetics in India, 1.33 crore go undiagnosed. The result is complications at a later stage.

Characteristic signs and symptoms of the disease, if they do occur, include excessive thirst, increased urination, fatigue, increased appetite, blurred vision, frequent or slow-healing infections and erectile dysfunction.

It is often the case that people with type 2 diabetes show no symptoms. As such, many people are thought be undiagnosed sufferers.

Definitive diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is required to keep sugar level under tight control & control the complications of diabetes such as Nephropathy, Neuropathy, CAD, PVD & Retinopathy.

In its constant endeavour to contribute to the society, Wings organises Diabetic camps with the help of doctors at their clinics.
